Tiko Takes His Time

Ages 3โ€“5

Tiko the turtle walked very, very slowly.

โ€œCome on, Tiko!โ€ called Rabbit and Squirrel. โ€œRace you to the pond!โ€ And off they ran, zoom, zoom!

Tiko walked on, stepโ€ฆ byโ€ฆ step.

On the path, Tiko saw a tiny ladybird stuck on her back. Her little legs were wiggling in the air.

โ€œLet me help you,โ€ said Tiko. He gently nudged her with his nose, and she rolled the right way up. โ€œThank you!โ€ she said, and flew away.

Tiko walked on. He saw a beautiful blue flower and a shiny snail and a cloud shaped like a fish.

At last, Tiko reached the pond.

โ€œYouโ€™re so slow!โ€ laughed Rabbit.

Tiko smiled and told them about the ladybird, the blue flower, the shiny snail and the fish-shaped cloud.

Rabbit and Squirrel looked at each other. โ€œWe ran so fast, we didnโ€™t see anything at all!โ€

The next day, all three friends walked to the pond together, slowly, slowly, noticing wonderful things all the way.

The lesson: Going slowly can help you notice wonderful things, and help others too.
